It is hard to believe that two years have passed since we first opened the first floor of apartments in the Transitional Living Program (TLP)! Now we have three floors filled and have had the pleasure of walking beside the men in our program and witnessing their abounding growth firsthand. This is the brief story of one such participant.
Leroy was one of the first residents who, upon graduating from our New Life Recovery Program, moved into the more independent TLP program across the street. Here he found the safety, security and accountability he was looking for. It has been such a blessing seeing Leroy’s transformation since he arrived at the Rescue Mission in October of 2012 not only homeless and addicted, but hopeless and broken.
It wasn’t all “smooth sailing” during Leroy’s stay…two months after he moved in to the TLP, he was laid off from his new job but unable to collect unemployment due to the brevity of his service there. However, applying the skills he learned during Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) (which is a required component of our New Life Recovery Program) Leroy was able to save enough money to continue living in his apartment until he began working again a few months later. He also became a member of a local church and remains active in his church community.
During his two years in the TLP, Leroy met a woman with a love for Christ. They are currently engaged to be married, planning their wedding and are moving to Baltimore where a job awaits him! Through each of these life-changing decisions, Leroy has sought out wise counsel from our TLP pastoral team who have prayed tirelessly both with him and for him.
It is such a joy to see how the Lord blessed Leroy, and to see his growth and maturity during his time in our TLP program. Though we are going to miss having him around, we know he is leaving as a new creation…a new man in Christ, and we wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his life. Praise God!
