Director “In Training”

On June 17, five other Mission directors/retired directors and I will be embarking on a rigorous 2-day, 24 mile hike from the south rim to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. When I heard about this hiking trip I jumped at the chance to participate, but I knew I had a lot to do in preparation! In the recent months leading up to our “expedition” I have logged countless miles on trails all throughout the Catskill Mountains. I’ve done Overlook Mountain/Echo Lake in Woodstock, Windham High Peak, Westkill and just yesterday I hiked Thomas Cole, Black Dome (pictured above) and Black Head.

Although I like hiking with friends/family, I’ve done a number of hikes by myself which gives me a chance to take in the awesomeness of God’s creation and just pray and thank Him for everything that He provides.  As I was hiking I was able to spot the elusive and amazing bald eagle (which I startled not once, but twice) and it allowed me to witness firsthand the handiwork of our Lord and the care he takes in his detailed craftsmanship of each and every creature, plant, and rock.  God is good!

I have one more weekend to prepare myself before our directors’ trip to the Grand Canyon, but I think I’m getting to be in pretty good shape and I feel ready!  But please pray for all of us as we take a break from Mission work for a couple of days and just share and fellowship with each other.  Pray that it will be a much needed refreshing time away for us all and that we come back to our respective Missions rejuvenated and re-energized! (And that we all come back in one piece).  Thank you!
